St. Patrick’ s Day

St. Patrick’ s Day, the national day of Ireland is celebrated not only in Ireland but all across the world especially in the United States, Canada, Australia & New Zealand by Irish people, their descendents & people of all back grounds interested in Irish culture or in just having a fun day out.

Yokohama, long famous as a cosmopolitan multi-national city 1st celebrated St. Patrick’ s Day in 2004 and where better to celebrate this world famous festival than in Motomachi, the most fashionable quarter of Japan 2nd biggest city.

Who was St. Patrick?

St. Patrick was a bishop who lived in the late 4th and early 5th century and helped spread Christianity to Ireland. Many myths exist about him most famously that he rid Ireland of all snakes. There are no snakes in the wild in Ireland.

Although the holiday began as a religious occasion and is still marks by attending church in Ireland, it’ s primary function now is to allow Irish people to celebrate their rich culture & heritage & to allow people from all cultures to celebrate with them.
Singing, dancing & drinkin.

Ireland is known as the Emerald isle because of its great beauty and green landscape. The national colour is green and it is therefore traditional to wear green on St. Patrick’ s Day.
So come along to Motomachi dress up in green and join in the fun!

The Irish are renowned for their friendliness and love of fun & Japan got to experience this during the FIFA World Cup 2002. Interest is growing in this unique & wonderful country as more Japanese travel to Ireland as tourists & students & experience the warmth of the Irish people.
